Ronald D. Francis (Monash University, Australia)
This work is one that needed to be written. We are all too readily
aware of the difficulties and problems that constantly invest our
world understanding: we are also too aware that sometimes, and even
often, villainy walks abroad. This refreshing and challenging look
at what unites us, rather than what divides us is a most welcome
addition. In this sense the book is unique. The basis of the
author’s presentation is that our humanity operates on principles
that are universal. The principles that underlie our behaviour do
not vary much, even though the means of expression may differ. As
such the book has clear implications for philosophers, social and
physical scientists’ and many other thinkers who are concerned about
the way in which we, as humans, relate to each other.
Paul Wilson (Bond University, Gold Coast, Australia)
This book stems from the author’s broad
interest in the application of behavioural principles to practical
situations. The commonality, as well as the variety, of the human
condition is only to be understood in the temporal context – the
history, timing, and sequence of human relationships. As the old
legal maxim has it, ‘time is of the essence’. Our common humanity
view, expressed here, is that that which we have in common is more
powerful than that which divides.
